About
The Art Section of the "Christian Tell" Gorj County Library operates in one of the most valuable historical monuments in Gorj County, the Iosif Keber Memorial House. For this reason it has two functions: memorial house and library.
The building, built in 1932 by the architect Julius Doppelreiter, an interwar personality who contributed to the development of civil architecture of that period, promoting the neo-Romanian style, was the home of the painter Iosif Keber - an artist with numerous easel works, consecrated in monumental painting, restorer of paintings for 63 churches throughout the country. The artist's generosity made the "Christian Tell" Gorj County Library inherit an important collection of works of art along with books, albums, magazines, which created the core of the Art Section, made available to the public, as Iosif Keber wanted , in the house that belonged to him and which he left to the community with this destination - an art library.
The inherited collection, of over 6000 volumes, which belonged to the painter, was continuously supplemented during the 20 years of operation, now counting over 16,000 documents: art albums, histories, treatises, biographies of Romanian and foreign artists, criticism of art, sheet music, to which is added an important collection of vinyl records, CDs and DVDs of artistic subjects.
