Doina Gorjului Professional Artistic Ensemble

The professional folk ensemble "Doina Gorjului" from Târgu-Jiu has its beginnings over 60 years ago, in 1948, when the "Taraful Gorjului" was established - the first professional orchestra formation, to which soloists and dancers were added. In 1968, with the re-establishment of Gorj County, it changed its name to "Doina Gorjului".

The ensemble has participated in numerous tours, both in Romania and abroad (Spain, Portugal, Mexico, France, Turkey, Israel, Yugoslavia, etc.) and has won numerous awards and trophies. In 2002, it received the "ETNOS" award from the Romanian Ministry of Culture and Radio Broadcasting. After this period, "Doina Gorjului" continued to participate in international festivals in Hungary and Turkey. It is a constant presence at major folklore festivals in Romania, such as "Cerbul de Aur", the folklore festival in Mamaia, and others. Annually, this ensemble is the main organizer of the most resounding folklore events in Gorj: the International Folklore Festival in August and the National Festival of Popular Song "Maria Lătăretu" in November.

A perfect harmony between authenticity and professionalism - that is the secret of the longevity of "Doina Gorjului.
