In addition to epic creations, most of the musical repertoire is given by lyrical songs.
The most important pieces of Gorj are the "long songs" (doinele) - slow lyrical songs, ornamented and with an open form that distinguishes them from ordinary songs. They are still sung throughout the county, at the big wedding table. Very often, in the official speeches about folklore, it was stated that doina is the musical-poetic genre representative of the popular culture of Gorj.
Here, the doina did not allow herself to be influenced by the folklorized versions of the communists through the immense folk ensembles, she remained alive, carried by fiddlers and rhapsodies. They perform it during any popular parties where the participants are gathered around a table. The texts of the old priests from Gorj mainly illustrate the theme of love, having a pronounced erotic character.
