About
The musical folklore of Gorj (or the traditional/peasant music of Gorj) is represented by one of the most distinguished musics of the Romanian traditional genre. He keeps only the pieces whose artistic quality is unquestionable, because there are also mediocre pieces circulating in the region, unworthy of being anthologized, but significant for the musical life of Gorj as a whole.
Starting from 1949, the traditional music of Gorj enters an imminent decline, with the appearance of official popular orchestras, which zealously destroyed, one by one, its distinctive notes, considered too rustic and "uncivilized". With the support of orchestras, "arrangers" and folk music singers, the media invented a new style, which aimed to have a territorial extension beyond the limits of the Gorge - the "urban" style.
Fiddlers took him as an example and began to boldly adopt into their own music melodies, melodic-rhythmic and ornamental formulas and folk ensemble harmonies.
