Easter in Gorj means the respect of the region's customs and traditions, it is celebrated with the family. Usually, rural homes are filled again with relatives, all those who have chosen to live in cities, leaving the villages, return to their places of origin, in their parental homes.
Easter in Gorj begins with the Week of Passion. On the first day of this week (Monday) people wear mourning, a sign of the suffering of the Savior. This mourning attire will be changed to a happier one on Easter Sunday.

Easter in Gorj also implies people returning to God. They go to church, confess, and take communion. On Holy Thursday, women are not allowed to sleep because they will be like that all year. Also on this day, people remember their loved ones who have passed away, sharing food with the poor in their name.

On Holy Thursday, it is said that the souls of those who have died return to the houses they left behind some time ago. That is why people light huge fires for the souls of those who have left them.
