Gropului Sec gorges are located within the radius of Bâlta village, Runcu commune, Vâlcan-Motru area. These gorges are an ideal place for canyoning, located at a distance of 30 km from the town of Târgu Jiu. According to enthusiasts, the area has a complex karst relief, karst springs. Gropului Sec Keys are one of the most important tourist attractions in Oltenia, an objective you should not miss!
The protected area in which the Gropului Sec Gorges are included occupies a total area of 1,562 hectares, the area being one of national interest. It is a mixed nature reserve, which corresponds to the fourth category of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The reservation came into being in 1982, following the decision taken by the Gorj County People's Council and the County Council.
Cheile Gropului Sec stands out for its complex karst relief, which also has karst springs. The vegetation is made up mainly of beech forests, but you can also see gorun forests, and as for the grasses, those that prevail are those specific to rocky areas.
