About

The Forest Nature Reserve is located in the Gurghiu Mountains with an area of 17.8 hectares. It is a forested area with forest species of spruce with an age of over 170 years (90%) and beech (10%).

The protected area developed here due to deep soils that are very rich in humus, with good water and nutrient circulation. These formed due to the context of the volcanic mountains that belong to the upper Pleistocene, and under external factors, the process of mineralization of old rocks began. The hydrographic basin of the Gurghiu Valley area is quite branching, with many tributaries.

In terms of vegetation, the genetic value is enormous. Pure trees, 90% spruce and 10% species of fir and beech, have an age of over 170 years for spruce, and others 120 years. Only 10% of the reserve's surface has young spruce, 15-20 years old. Tree diameters exceed 75 cm, and heights, 38 m.

The fauna is diverse and specific to coniferous forests, so protected species are also found: bears, wolves, deer, roe deer, wildcats, foxes, martens, mountain cocks etc.
Access: Tg Mures DN 15 - Reghin DJ 153C - Gurghiu - DF.
