About

Oslea Mountain is a nationally protected area located in Gorj county, in the administrative territory of Tismana and Padeș commune.

The natural area with an area of 280 hectares is located in the Vâlcan Mountains (Retezat-Godeanu mountain group), bordered to the east by the Jiul de Vest river, to the west by the Cernei valley, to the south by Bou Mountain, and to the north by Retezat National Park.

The natural reserve was declared a protected area by Law No. 5 of March 6, 2000, and represents an area with a developed relief in limestone (crests, cliffs, rocky outcrops, scree), pastures, alpine hollows, springs, and forests, with flora and fauna specific to the Southern Carpathians.

Here, rare floristic species are found, including black hellebore (Nigritella nigra) or Daphne (Daphne cneorum).
