About

The Rafailă Rocks constitute a protected area located in the Gorj county, on the administrative territory of the city of Bumbești Jiu.

The Rafailă Rocks are located in the Southern Carpathians (between the Retezat-Godeanu mountain group and the Parâng Mountains), in the Lainici Pass, on the left slope of the Jiul Valley (in a loop of it), on the right side of the European road E79 (Bumbești Jiu - Petroșani), in the proximity of the Tismana Monastery.

The natural reserve with an area of 1 ha. was declared a protected area and is included in the Defileul Jiului National Park. The natural area represents a mountainous area of geological and scenic interest within whose territory there are several rocky formations composed of metamorphic rocks of schistose structure, with chloritoid insertions.
