About
The Săcelu Mineral Springs Nature Reserve is located in the commune of the same name in Gorj county. Specifically, the reserve is located on the left bank of the Blahnița stream, right inside the communal beach.
The Săcelu baths have been used since Roman times when they came to "Sacellum". Their geographical position makes them even more attractive - the springs are located at 350 meters altitude and are surrounded by steep hills, resembling gorges, but also by the Blahnița river valley, where various rocks can be seen, subject to erosion by external agents.
The Săcelu Mineral Springs Nature Reserve was established in 2000 and has a total area of one hectare. It is a mixed type reserve, included in category IV of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and represents a territory where many springs are found whose waters are sulfurous, brominated, hypotonic, hypertonic, chlorinated, saline or iodized.
The first spa areas here were established in 1888, and today the Săcelu Mineral Springs Nature Reserve is still popular, because it is known that such waters are beneficial to health. They are recommended for all kinds of problems, from rheumatic to neurological.
