The Museum of Popular Architecture in Gorj from Curtișoara
Museums
About
The museum, with an area of approx. 13 ha, coagulated around a part of the Cornoiu family's domain, the heiress of the castle built at the beginning of the 18th century, currently the largest and best preserved construction of this type in Oltenia.
Inaugurated in 1975, the museum has permanently enriched its heritage collection, constituting an important support for those interested in the world of the village in general and the popular culture of Gorj, in particular.
In this context, the two churches (the first a foundation of Balasa Cornoiu from 1821 dedicated to St. John the Baptist, the second belonging to the Tătărescu family, displaced in 2002 from Poiana Rovinari), as well as the St. Archangel fountain (1896) are the best models to understand the privileged relationship of Romanian families with God.
All this, the whisper of the leaves of the secular trees or the murmur of a spring transforms the visitor from a simple observer to a participant in what can be called: the life of the village.
