Ecaterina Teodoroiu was born on January 14, 1894 in the commune of Vădeni, located today in the Tg-Jiu municipality. He started primary school in his native village and finished it at Tg-Jiu. Ecaterina was a student, probably between 1905-1909, at the Romanian-German School in Tg-Jiu, where Ştefan Bobancu was the director.
From 1938, the Toderoiu family house, built in 1884, was set up as a "Ecaterina Teodoroiu" memorial house, out of the desire to keep the memory of the heroine from Jiu alive in the minds of new generations.
