About

The Cheile Cuților, among the least explored in our country, therefore of exceptional beauty, shelter a very large number of caves; 50 have been documented so far by speleologists. Among them is the Vaca Cave, a cavern in which traces of people who lived here in the past have been discovered (ceramic materials from the Bronze Age, fossil animal skeletons - the diet of prehistoric man, etc.).

The Vaca Cave has been declared a natural reserve and a natural monument and is located in the Pădurea Craiului mountains. The entrance to the cave is above the Cuților Valley; it has two large halls and several galleries, which give the appearance of a cow's head, probably a reason why the cave was named thus. It is not set up for tourism, but anyone with lighting equipment can visit it.

The speleological formation has a length of 158 meters and inside it can be admired several concretions of sedimentary rocks forming stalactites, stalagmites, cave pearls, canopies, garlands. Fossil skeletons and guano deposits were discovered here.

The Vaca Cave is protected by law, because inside it there are species of animals on the brink of extinction.
