Fusteica Cave

Fusteica Cave

About

Her entrance is located approximately in the center of the village of Isvarna, across the street from the cultural center building. The entrance is a relatively wide (3/5 m) opening facing east, located at the base of a limestone wall.

The only gallery that starts from this opening continues southeast for a length of 516 meters. The walls and ceiling are covered with drips and stalactites, especially in the second half of the cave, where discs also appear.

Being inhabited all year round by bats, the cave is relatively rich in guano, but during periods of heavy rain, this is washed off the floor. It is a warm cave (9.5°C in the air on September 10, 1965), relatively humid, and traversed by air currents. These enter through the left branch at the end of the gallery, indicating a connection of the cave with the outside and through this place. The trophic resources are very rich and consist almost entirely of guano. The fauna is quite rich and among the species found, the most are guanophiles and belong mainly to mites, collembolas, dipterans and coleopterans.

There are also three troglobiont species: Sophrochaeta subaspera, Duvalius spinifer. The first two have become extremely rare. There is a very rich parietal association and within this, the two species of spiders, Nesticus cellulanus, which predominate towards the interior, and Meta merianae, whose white, round and flattened cocoons can be seen everywhere attached to the walls towards the opening.

The cave is easy to traverse. Lighting means are necessary. It is not recommended to visit during periods of heavy rain.
